Bonding

The main purpose of bonding is to improve the appearance of your smile. Teeth that are crooked or have been chipped can benefit from bonding to improve their shape. Similar to a filling, a hardened resin is used to replicate parts of the teeth that may be missing or discolored. Bonding material is made to match your tooth shade to look as natural as possible. It is applied as a paste and hardened with a special light to ensure it bonds with the tooth.
Unlike porcelain or some other materials used in dentistry, the resin may be less durable over time. It is for this reason that some patients prefer to opt for other options, such as veneers that are placed over the teeth. However, the process of bonding is usually comfortable and quick, with results achieved in just one appointment. In the case of a chip, inform your dentist so they can set you up for the best solution for you.

Bonding is less expensive than other cosmetic treatments and usually can be completed in one visit to our office. However, bonding can stain and is easier to break than other cosmetic treatments such as porcelain veneers. If it does break or chip, tell your doctor. The bonding generally can be easily patched or repaired in one visit.
